Harm prevention and conflict transformation in times of isolation and social solidarity.
Welcome to Conflict Transformation by me, luna nicole. I am an abolitionist organizer interested in cultivating community and skill around harm prevention and conflict transformation, with a transformative justice lens. Most people arrived at my instagram (@conflicttransformation) by way of a series of posters that went viral in 2018 and again in 2020; this substack is my way of departing social media. I welcome all of you, however you arrived.
This substack will be most beneficial to people who:
Want to better understand the conflicts in their lives within an anti-oppressive framework,
Are interested in actively engaging in both individual behavior/practice change and implementing systems-based changes to prevent harm, and
May not be in a community that is already engaging deeply with accountability or abolition and want support in growing that community.
When you sign up, here’s what we’ll get up to together:
I’ll send you one e-mail per week with the same kind of content you saw on my instagram account (conflict frameworks and practical tips, the words of brilliant people I have learned from, links to events and resources).
That e-mail will include a link to a discussion topic that we can engage with via text-based comments section, which I will be directly responsive to every Monday evening.
Invites to a virtual café (once every two months-or-so) where we can talk about conflicts people are facing and provide mutual solidarity and support.
Invites to a twice yearly event related to abolition + conflict (first event expected to be a 3-part series in Nov 2020), aimed at turning group reflection into abolitionist practice in your own circles and communities.
Opportunities and support in forming pods/affinities/study groups on conflict, with people you know, love, and trust to build robust offline understanding and practice.
My hope is that this will offer a variety of opportunities for people to engage at their level of interest and comfort, without ads or surveillance. I’ll also be seeking ways to elevate other folks’ experiences and for engagement beyond the newsletter to be an opportunity for us to share with each other rather than directed toward me as an authority or “expert”—I am, at heart, a facilitator and not a leader.
I’m new to substack—my understanding is that all of this is free to anyone. Everything I do will seek to be freely accessible as much as possible and donations will be optional for facilitated events. Please bear with me as I learn how to navigate this new technology.
Feel free to subscribe and to share! Once you subscribe, you’ll get a welcome e-mail with some boundaries and housekeeping notes.
In the meantime, tell your friends!
